Professional Experience
Mr. Boily privately practices since 1970. He is a lawyer at DeBlois et Associés, Barristers and Solicitors, L.L.P. since April 2004.
Since 1970, his general practice mainly applies to general civil liability, including medical and hospital liability. He also practices in professional liability, products liability, Insurance Law, Administration Law, Work and Employment Law, commercial litigation and Environmental Law.
His specialty being litigation, he performed in Civil and Penal Law in all levels of courts in the country, including the Supreme Court of Canada.
Mr. Boily excelled in many cases that set a precedent, especially in the followings:
Counsel for Claimants in the case Laurentide Motels Ltd. vs. City of Beauport, (1989) 1 RCS p. 705 listed as one of 45 decisions of the Supreme Court of Canada which marked the Canadian society :«1982-2000 - Vingt ans de grands arrêts de la Cour suprême du Canada » Guillemard & Saint-Hilaire, Wilson & Lafleur »;
Counsel of Centre hospitalier de l’Université de Sherbrooke in the case Crawford vs. CHUS and al. – Legal proceeding in medical and hospital liability pleaded up to Supreme Court of Canada;
Counsel of CHUL in the Blaise Cloutier case, which also was a legal proceeding in medical and hospital liability, pleaded up to Supreme Court of Canada;
Counsel of New Brunswick International Paper for an important legal proceeding in accordance with the Environment Protection Act;
Counsel of Corporation des techniciens ambulanciers de Québec at the Coroner's investigation for the well-known Kordic case;
Counsel of Cities of Baie d’Urfé and Dollard-des-Ormeaux in the municipal mergers case, pleaded up to Supreme Court of Canada;
Lawyer in major commercial disputes.
Professional Activities
Mr. Boily was the secretary of the Société des études juridiques for a couple of years.
He taught civil liability at the École du Barreau du Québec from 1971 to 1985.
Moreover, he was invited as a speaker in front of the Canadian Institute and other insurance specialized organizations.
He is the author of numerous articles on civil liability and Insurance Law.
He is frequently asked to give interviews on radio and television about current legal topics.
Communal and Social Activities
Mr. Boily was a member of the Comité de la campagne de financement 2002 de la Bibliothèque de l’Université Laval (Fondation de l’Université Laval).
