Professional Experience

Mr. Monette is a senior partner of DeBlois et Associés, Barristers and Solicitors, L.L.P. Before he arrived in Quebec City, he was senior partner in one of the biggest firms of Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

Starting in 1981, he progressively oriented his professional activities towards banking and commercial litigation. By executing mandates for financial institutions, he instituted legal proceedings to recover their claims and realize their guarantees.

He also worked in Corporate Law for transactions of purchase and sale of shares and businesses, for business reorganization and implementation of financing in the aforementioned transactions. Furthermore, he was asked to give detailed opinions on the applicability of the guarantees held by financial institutions, about the revaluation of their portfolio or the financial risks in particular cases.

During the past years, he represented customers in important disputes, especially in Constitution Law, Administration Law, bankruptcy and insolvency, which brought him in front of every single court of justice of the country.

Professional Activities

Mr. Monette was strongly involved in his professional corporation, and then became a member of the Conseil général du Barreau du Québec. He was president of the Barreau du Saguenay-Lac St-Jean and a member of the Comité d'inspection professionnelle du Barreau du Québec for seven years.

He was in charge of teaching a college-level class at the Institute of Canadian Bankers (class on legislation and banking practices) in 1985.

Communal and Social Activities

Since 1977, Mr. Robert Monette has been a member of the board of directors of various organizations and a couple boards of trade, especially for the Chambre de commerce du Québec.
